For the Cobbler

  • 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups prepared fruit (fresh, frozen, or canned)

For the Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Mix Fruit Recipe Step by Step

Step 1 Sift the dry ingredients and cut in the shortening.

Step 2 Add the milk to make a soft dough.

Step 3 Spread evenly on a well-greased 13 x 9 x 21/2-inch ovenproof dish.

Step 4 Spread the fruit over the dough. Bring the syrup ingredi­ents to a boil in a small saucepan and cook for 3 or 4 minutes.

Step 5 Pour over the fruit and bake for 45 minutes.

Step 6 Serve hot or at room temperature.
