How to Use the Cumulative GPA Calculator

Managing your total academic record is essential for graduation and career planning. This tool combines your past performance with your current goals.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

  1. Language & Theme: Use the top bar to select your preferred language (English, Spanish, or French) and toggle Dark Mode if studying late.
  2. Input Prior Totals: Look at your most recent transcript. Enter your current Cumulative GPA and the total Credits Earned to date.
  3. Add New Courses: Enter the course names and credits for your current semester.
  4. Instant Update: Click “Calculate New Cumulative GPA” to see how your new grades will raise or lower your overall average.

The Basic Formula

The cumulative formula differs from a single-semester calculation because it accounts for a larger pool of data:

GPAcum=Creditstotal(GPAprior×Creditsprior)+∑(GradePointsnew×Creditsnew)

This ensures that a high-credit semester has a more significant impact than a low-credit semester.

Record, Save, and Update

  • Record: Keep a record of your GPA every time you receive mid-term or final grades.
  • Save: Use the PDF Export button to save a copy of your calculation. This is extremely helpful for scholarship applications.
  • Update: As you move through your degree, update the “Prior Totals” section with your new end-of-semester data to keep your calculations accurate.
